Just the other day was the feast day of St. Teresa of Ávila (October 15). Coming up (in December) we’ll mark the birthday of Evelyn Underhill (December 6) and the feast Day of St. John of the Cross (December 14). With all those dates in mind, I’ve dug up some old videos from retreats I did during the 2020 Pandemic. Originally for Holy Cross Monastery in New York, these online retreats were meaningful ways for us all to stay connected during a time of social isolation. Nowadays we’ve returned to having in-person retreats, thank heaven, while many of us continue to do plenty of teaching and community building online. Anyway, I’m happy that these videos are still available online, and I hope you might enjoy some or all of these.
The first series features English mystics: Evelyn Underhill, Julian of Norwich, and the anonymous author of The Cloud of Unknowing. The second series explores three of the greatest Spanish mystics: Ignatius of Loyola, Teresa of Ávila, and John of the Cross. Each conference stood alone, so just watch the ones that interest you, or create your own in-home retreat experience by watching them all.
